Although poker is one of the funnest games ever created, there are many strategies that need to be learned before you can begin winning consistently. One overlooked aspect of playing poker is table positioning. Many people fail to realize just how important table positioning is in poker. Your position at the table will directly influence your opportunities, and while the events that transpire during the game are drastically unpredictable, it is possible to understand the various advantages of each position in certain situations.

Be sure to take note of your position to the dealer. The closer you are to the dealer’s positions, the sooner you will be able to act after the start of the game. In many cases, the person directly after the dealer has the opportunity to influence the tone of the game by setting the bar for the rest of the players. However, the first player does not have the opportunity to read the other player’s cards and gauge their hands before making their bet. Being last before the deal can be beneficial because you can gain a lot of insight on the game before you even make a turn. Being in the middle of the table gives you a healthy balance of both advantages. Ultimately, you should choose your positioning at the table based upon your individual playing style. Learning how to play the right position at the table is one of the most important poker tips you can learn.
